Tips On How You Can Celebrate Independence Day

It’s the time of the year again when Americans show their patriotism and nationalism as 4th of July is right around the corner. Fourth of July is Independence Day and marks the day the US secured independence from the British Empire. There are different ways Americans mark the celebration of Independence Day.

Declaration of Independence

In 1775, the Continental Congress declared a war of independence against Britain. This was a meeting by representatives of the Thirteen Colonies, a group of colonies run by the British. On July 4, 1776, the Thirteen Colonies of America, then at war with Britain, declared themselves states of a new nation. The declaration was made through the Declaration of Independence, drafted by founding father Thomas Jefferson.

How To Celebrate 4th of July

In your own little way, you can take part in showing your love for country and pride in being American. Here are some ways you can commemorate Independence Day.

Watch the Independence Day Parade. On the 4th of July, Washington D.C., has a big parade that anyone can attend. There are military demonstrations, floats, bands, and others. The parade is held at 11:45 am. In the evening, there is a free concert at Capitol Fields with firework afterwards. While at the capital, you can visit the major landmarks such as the White House, Lincoln Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Check Out the Boston Celebration.  Boston is one of the oldest cities in the nation and it usually has a large Independence Day Celebration. Watch the Boston Pop Orchestra play patriotic songs for the crowd. Check out the historical landmarks such as the Old South Meeting House and the Paul Revere House.

Re-Enact The Declaration of Independence. Go back to the time when the Declaration of Independence was read. In Philadelphia, you can visit Independence Hall and see historical scenes acted out. Visit the Liberty Bell while you are in the city.

Watch A Fireworks Display in New York City. Head to New York City and witness the largest fireworks display at Macy’s. Watch performances by guest stars before the big Fireworks Display.

If you cannot make it to these events, there are also local celebrations. Most cities have free or cheap fireworks display and parades. You can check your local paper or online for the location of local displays. Alternatively, military bases have their own fireworks displays. You can also watch concerts at local venues.
